Burghley Horse Trials
The Burghley Horse Trials (September each year) have recently been given the International Best Event Award for the fifth time, cemeting its position as the premier equestrian event. A three-day event (which actually takes place over four days) is one of the great tests of all round horsemanship; the Cross Country course is one of the most challenging in the world, while the show jumping offers a tense climax, with some of the best show-jumpers in the world.
Badminton Horse Trials
The Badminton Horse Trials is a true blue ribbon event in the sporting arena, and is arguably the world’s best known three-day event. Of course, the event is rightly focused on the horses and riders overcoming seemingly insurmountable fences and obstacles, but for visitors there is so much more on offer including the Manor of Badminton, which was purchased by the Worcesters in 1608. The first event at Badminton was held in 1949, the idea of the 10th Duke of Beaufort in order that British riders could train for future international events. These days it is a huge, multinational event that was voted Best Event (Eventing) by the international publication L’Annee Hippique. Blair Castle Horse Trials
Scotland’s leading equestrian event, Blair Castle International Horse Trials (August each year) runs alongside the Bruadar Country Fair, attracting more than 40,000 visitors to Perthshire every year. Here visitors enjoy not only some fantastic 3-day eventing but also the Bruadar Country Fair runs alongside the equestrian activities on the Saturday and Sunday, featuring displays of both traditional and more modern countryside pursuits and 200-plus stalls, food outlets, entertainment and the wonderful surroundings of the Blair castle estate.
Situated a stone’s throw away from the glorious North Norfolk coastline, Burnham Market International is one of the country’s finest events where visitors can see a multitude of Olympic and Championship athletes competing on home turf.

Weston Park holds a Spring National and an Autumn International horse trials each year run over three days incorporating dressage, cross country and show jumping.
Weston Park itself is one of the most welcoming stately homes with as much character as any English castle and with as many stories as any royal home. Situated on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border, the House was built in 1671 and has been the ancestral home of the Earls of Bradford. Today the House and Park is run by a charity The Weston Park Foundation.

The Belton Horse Trials take place among the National Trust’s Belton Estate and each year provides the most perfect backdrop for equestrian fans and those looking for a great day out. A packed equestrian programme is supplemented by a whole range of activities including Farrier Demos and Dog Shows to the Gate Jumping competition and Stunt Shows.
Belton House itself is a Grade I listed country house in Belton near Grantham, Lincolnshire, and sits in the centre of the park. It was created for Sir John Brownlow in 1685 and designed to impress, with formal gardens and a series of avenues leading to follies within a larger wooded park.

The Houghton International Horse Trials is based in North West Norfolk with the event taking place in the magnificent grounds of Houghton Hall, one of England’s finest Palladian houses, this truly is one of the most outstanding venues within the sport of eventing.
After gaining its International status is 2007, the event now hosts over 700 horses, including more than 350 International competitors. It also hosts the only British leg of the FEI Nations Cup which sees teams from all over the world battle it out across 7 events at three levels of international competition.

Bramham Horse Trials are a four-day event hosted at Bramham Park, the home of the Lane Fox family, since 1974. It attracts around 45,000 visitors a year combining the equestrian and the social, with events include dressage, show jumping, team jumping, hunter shows, and pony club mounted games. There is also a thriving retail village, children’s entertainments and a popular parade of the Badsworth and Bramham Moor Hunt foxhounds.
Bramham Park is a striking country house was built in the late 17th century in the style of a 16th-century Florentine villa. The grounds, laid out at the time the house was being built, are one of the few surviving from this era of English garden design. The house is situated on the A1, just 5 miles south of Wetherby, and 15 miles from York.

Situated on the outskirts of Edinburgh, Hopetoun is Scotland’s finest stately home and its grounds provide a suitably inspiring location for the Hopetoun Horse Trials.
The trials set out to celebrate contemporary Scotland, offering visitors some of the finest international and local equine sporting stars alongside a taste of town and country life from food to fashion, home interiors to champagne bars and outdoor activities for all.

The Barbury Horse Trials are set in a natural amphitheatre formed by the beautiful Marlborough Downs, Barbury offers possibly the best views of any cross-country circuit. The course was designed by Captain Mark Phillips and provides a tough test for even the skills and courage of the world’s finest horses and riders.
Away from the main arena, there will be the Sheep Show (don’t miss the dancing sheep!), a wide variety of food and drink outlets and a shopping village with over 60 stalls offering everything from saddlery to high fashion. Barbury Castle Estate is located 3 miles North West of Marlborough in the beautiful county of Wiltshire.

The Hartpury International event is slightly at odds with with other big equestrian events in that it has come out of equine studies courses rather than a stately home using their grounds to host an event. The college itself was established after World War 2 as an agricultural education centre with 50 students, which remained relatively unchanged until 1990, when it embarked on a rapid expansion programme. The first Equine Studies programme was introduced in 1992, followed by a degree in Equine Science in 1994. This has been backed by heavy investment of more than £50 million to create an outstanding specialist campus, which hosts the events.
The eventing is supported by a variety of stands surrounding the International Outdoor Arena for the dressage while a shuttle bus service will take you to the viewing areas of the three testing courses on Hartpury House Bank.
